This is an amazing read with an ending that leaves you wanting more. It’s based more on a near future timeline than most stories, with technologies that are easier to grasp as they aren’t foo far from what we have now or are working on. I would recommend this for a read, especially with the questions you are left with at the end

  2. Hi Sam, really enjoyed your book, thank you. I am a bit of a veteran sci-fi reader, started way back 50 years ago with Foundation etc. and have never lost the bug!
Great to read a well written sci-fi story that steers clear of the ubiquitous cowboys in space or worse still acid saliva monster movie genre,. Look forward to both the (unintended!) sequel and whatever else you do.
I thought your writing stood up really well against all the stuff I have read over the years, by all the ‘greats’, keep it up, you really have a talent.
    Nigel.

  3. Thank you so much for sharing this fantastic saga with us. I haven’t read such a refreshingly well written space story in an age. You have taken all the old memes of the traditional sci-fi disaster/ancient artefact opera and twirled them into an original, well paced seat hugger of a tale, and as for the finale! Well I certainly didn’t see that coming through the tears in my eyes as Kate started to garden.
I can’t wait to find out what happened and what is to happen next with its ramifications to humankind and just what on earth (or elsewhere) is going on.
I am so looking forwards to reading more of your excellent writing. You have a true writers heart and the gift of storytelling in spades.

I am quite new to sy fi books and am still feeling my way ,I’ve read some books got a chapter or so in and thought this is too silly or far fetched so this book was a fantastic find the plot is fast and very believable it’s based around science that is not to far in the future and as such is believable and understandable the ending took me by surprise and I await the next book to find out how that happened in all a good read

  5. Amazing
    Such a good read
I couldn’t put it down untill the end revealed that Jeff was still alive.
It’s like all my dreams that have a bad ending I stay in bed and think of a better one. Can’t wait for the sequel.

  6. Loved the plot Sam. Glad Frank got what he deserved .Your story had little hidden gems throughout couldn’t wait to read it all. First time I didn’t sneek a peek at the ending .There was a lot going on that kept the pages turning .Great read when is the next one? Susan

  7. A satisfying and engaging look at the near-future World! Full of believable premise, and people. As an older reader, its great to discover a jewel like your book! Congrats, keep well, from a happy ☺reader. Gregory

  12. An outstanding saga! I couldn’t put it down, therefore completed this adventure in two sittings! Excellent storyline, near future setting, realistic technology, and tenacious plot. I’ll start the sequel this evening. Thank you for an excellent read.

Sam, excellent book, good old fashioned science fiction reawakening the sense of wonder that made me fall in love with the stuff in the first place some sixty odd years ago. Can hardly wait to read the second one.

  14. Hi Sally! If you mean the sequel to Deep Black, I’m working on it now and should have it out by late Summer/early Fall 2020. The sequel to Another World will be the next book after that, so I’m thinking it will be available toward the end of the year.

  15. SB Liked your character development. I am looking for interesting developments underground on Galena. seems there should be some intelligence at work somehow.
hope you have some macgyvers to help your colonists.
very intelligent start. be safe. DB

  16. Wonderful story and well develoed characters, allowing us to like love, understand, cheer on, empathize, and hate as need be. Thank you for giving the villain a most satisfying smothering of needed attention.
I look forward to sequel to come and will peruse your other “piles of words” as I can.

I’ve never accepted the modern mantra that mankind will destroy the Earth to the point you and many modern young writers have embraced! The Environmental Kool-aid of your formative years must have been mighty strong! Thank you for not dwelling upon the supposed impending dystopia and just using it as a vehicle to your characters’ future.

  17. Hi Tom, I’m glad you enjoyed the book.

The state of affairs in Another World doesn’t spring from any man-made apocalypse, but rather from an external event that I’m exploring in my Infinite Sky series (which occurs several hundred years prior). I personally believe the Earth is too resilient for little old us to make much of a difference. That being said, I think the fascination with showing a ruined Earth of the future comes from the fact that a relatively “perfect” Earth is all we’ve ever known in our lifetime, and imaginations tend to spark when shown a starkly different take on what is considered normal. It is indeed difficult to find a story of such kind that doesn’t blame in on evil humans, or evil military, or evil (insert anything to do with humans here). Plenty of other authors go that route, so I’m having fun exploring a universe where things happen outside our control.

  18. I had a difficult time putting the Mission One book down. I was going to rate it 4 stars, because it didn’t explain “what happened”, but then I found out about book 2 (Deep Black) of the series, which, I assume, is going to give me more explanations, so I gave Mission One 5 stars – because, really, my ONLY complaint was that I wanted more information. Easy to read. Believable. I’ll definitely read more of your stuff, Samuel Best

  19. A really terrific read. I want Science Fiction to regale me with what life might be like on other planets and this book delivers that in a totally believable way. Loved it and can’t wait for book 2.

  20. Terry Williams

Samuel enjoyed your characterizations very much. All great fiction writers seem to have that skill set. Being a great story teller aside believable characters that bring the tale to life is a true talent. Thank you for the good read. Looking forward to more…

  21. Greetings from Planet Clare!! I thoroughly enjoyed your book and cannot wait for more! This is the first book in a while that’s drawn me in deeply; love the characters and the alien wildlife…..Thank You so much!

  22. Thank you for this very well written book. I am looking forward to the next one. I have been reading science fiction for many years, some great, some not so much. Yours was a pleasure to read!
    Thanks again…and see you soon!!

  23. I as well as a few of your readers have been a sci fan for over 60 years. As has previously noted,Foundation is probably the epitome of my readong experience. I am really pleased with the manner in which you have given life to a very interesting story line. Anxious to read the next install. Stay safe.

  24. Hey, want me to host your web site securely? We could help each other out. I’ll do it for free, nothing expected in return.

    Thank you,

I just finished Deep Black. I have been enjoying the series quite a lot. I like the characters you have created and it’s refreshing to read something with other worldly creatures and not have it be all war. I honestly thought conflict free alien sci-fi didn’t exists… maybe I haven’t gotten that far yet. Ha I keep asking my self when is the war going to start. Not that I’m looking forward to it or miss it I’ve just come to expect it

  25. A fantastic story which like many others I have just had to keep reading. Just finished the second book and it’s now 2.45am. Looking forward to the next.
